The Fostering Change Alliance is busy working on ways to address and improve problems in the state's child welfare system. We welcome your feedback and suggestions and hope to develop monthly planning meetings soon. In the meantime, below you will find some of the projects we're working on to advance issues important to our children, adolescents and adults involved within the foster care system. Foster Parent

Bill of Rights

A law for foster parents in NH was signed by Governor Sununu in June 2018, effective August 24, 2018. Several states around the country have instituted a bill or law informing foster parents of their rights within the child welfare system. The common theme in these bills and laws across the country are a set of rules that requires foster parents be treated with dignity, respect and consideration as a primary provider of foster children. Most bills and laws also indicate that foster parents deserve fair and equitable treatment as a valued member of the child welfare team and that every foster parent should be allowed to share their thoughts and concerns on behalf of a foster child without fear of discrimination, coercion or any sort of retaliation.

New Laws & New Rules

NH's Administrative rules and legal statutes related to children, birth-parents, grandparents and foster parents are limited in their ability to either be enforced or be able to fulfill the needs of foster parents. The Alliance is committed to guiding foster parents, relative caregivers and individuals to find their voice and inform our legislators the type of transformation that needs to take place in our child welfare system.  Everybody can do something!!
